clay rice is a local silhouette artist...
Kaitlyn Iserman
he uses scissors, and occasionally a blow torch, to create silhouettes...
he was just here in charleston and
i purchased a silhouette of my
friends daughter for her first birthday...
"Silhouettes are a family tradition for Clay Rice; he learned the technique from his grandfather, Carew Rice, who cut many of the iconic silhouettes seen throughout Charleston, from men lazily fishing by the river to Spanish moss dripping from old growth live oaks."
what a beautiful old fashioned art...
what a delicate tradition...
i am glad to see this art form return.
