lbd...the little black dress...

october 1st, 1926
 Coco Chanel's
 little black dress

was first featured in a small paragraph
in American Vogue.

Coco chanels "ford dress"
deemed as reliable as the ford t-model ...

"intended to be long-lasting, versatile, affordable,
accessible to the widest market possible and in a neutral color"
The Little Black Dress

as ledgend tells it...

Coco started wearing black after her
lover Boy Capel died in 1919...

her designs thereafter
were inspired by black mourning dresses
worn by peasant women in small french
villages
she knew as a child...

it wasn't till 1961
when the young trendy Audrey Hepburn
wore the famous
Little Black Dress
in Breakfast at Tiffany's...

this dress was not a Chanel design
but Hubert de Givenchy ...

 she did
embody Chanel's spirit
and live up to coco's famous quote
"a girl should be two things: classy and fabulous!"

Coco Chanel
also said
"you can never be over nor under dressed in a little black dress"

"Chanel did not invent the little black dress,
The LBD was around before Chanel’s crepe de chine number appeared in Vogue, but she told us to wear it, and so we did." —Ali Basye

Audrey Hepburn / Jackie O

Marilyn Monroe / Victoria Beckham / Blondie

this dress was auctioned for charity Dec. 6th 2006
for more than $800,000.00

thank you Coco
for so many things...

wow! Madonna!

Madonna knocked it out of the park!!
she was amazing!

dressed in Givenche.....
she looked flawless
and age appropriate...

"No Limits"

"GIVENCHY's Riccardo Tisci has revealed what it was like to work with Madonna on her Super Bowl stage costumes.
"Following my collaboration with Madonna on her last tour three years ago, it is a great honour for me to be a part of yet another historical and iconic moment," the designer said today. "People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna. I am so happy that, after being busy in other scenes, she decided to go back on a music stage. Not only to bring us music, but also to make such a statement of performance and fashion."
Inspired by several of Tisci's archive Givenchy looks, the outfits - which were all changed on stage during Madonna's 12-minute set - included an all over hand-embroidered gold cape; a black mini dress worn with a hand-studded belt; and an embellished black coat.
Madonna performed Vogue, on a massive stage covered with a montage of moving Vogue covers, followed by previous hits Musicand Express Yourself - and her new song Give me all your Luvinfeaturing Nicki Minaj and M.I.A."
article found here.

and all of her costume changes
were done ON STAGE!

what a great
1/2 time Superbowl show!!
