you all know my love for sharks.....

these poor animals are close to being endangered...
the great white IS endangered...

Vic Hislop
is on a mission and is trying to protect us from sharks...
he is responsible for killing some of the largest and oldest great whites
ever recorded...

sharks kill 5 people each year

elephants & tigers : 100
execution : 2,400
illegal drugs : 22,000
road accidents : 1,200,00
starvation : 8,000,000

in most shark attacks flesh is never removed even if the person
dies it is usually from blood loss...

sharks are not interested in eating us...
would you go jogging next to a lion or cheetah?
no... but there are millions of people
entering the water where sharks hunt
every year and very few people are bitten...

these beautiful and amazing creatures
have every right to
live...

"Sharks (superorder Selachimorpha) are a type of fish with a full cartilaginous skeleton and a highly streamlined body. The earliest known sharks date from more than 420 million years ago"
Wikipedia

Shark nets and drum lines kill sharks indiscriminately along the Coast...
shark fin soup is a symbol of wealth... the fin is tasteless and
only adds texture...
the soup is flavored with chicken or pork
and served at weddings, banquets and expensive restaurants...

sharks are raped of their fins and thrown back in
the ocean only to be stripped of their dignity
and left to drown...

poor sharks...

 yes, this is vic hislop...

today i have a date with my dad!

i hope everyone survived thanksgiving!
we sure did.

but today...
i am so excited, i have lived in South Carolina for 6
years and have always wanted to eat here!

Scott's barbecue!
my father is picking me up this morning and we are driving
to Hemingway just to eat Scott's famous barbecue!!

"Scott's Bar-B-Que was founded in 1972 by Ella and Roosevelt "Rosie" Scott in Hemingway, SC.  Rosie's uncle taught him the down home technique of slow cooking whole hogs over a wood-burning pit.  The community just couldn't get enough of Rosie's barbecue. After hand crafting his own barbecue pits, Rosie Scott has spent all of his adult life serving some of the best barbecue the Carolina's have to offer.
Today the legacy continues with Rosie, Ella and their son Rodney.  Rodney Scott cooked his first hog when he was just eleven.  Now 27 years later, Rodney serves as the Pit master at Scott's Bar-B-Que.  Rodney is proud to tell the family's barbecue secret, "we put a whole lot of love into what we do."  And indeed it's true. Critics have been raving about the authenticity of Scott's Bar-B-Que for decades.  It's not just the barbecue, but it's that old fashioned, "mom & pop" feel you get when visit Scott's Bar-B-Que.

Forever grateful to the Hemingway community for their success, The Scott family shows their appreciation every spring by hosting a free community picnic.  The event has grown so large that the Scott's now schedule their own family reunion to coincide with the annual event. They do this to ensure that they have enough hands on deck to serve the community.  They've done this for the past 13 years.  Now that's love!"

i have had this song stuck in my head for days......

so to all of you fellow deadheads.....
please enjoy...

If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn,
I could arm a town the size of Abilene
Don't you push me baby, because I'm holdin' low
And you know I'm only in it for the gold

All that I am asking for is ten gold dollars
And I could pay you back with one good hand
You can look around about the wide world over
And you'll never find another honest man.

Last fair deal in the country,Sweet Suzie,
Last fair deal in the town
Put your gold money where your love is baby,
Before you let my deal go down

Don't you push me baby, cause I'm holdin' low
And I know a little something you won't ever know
Don't you touch hard liquor, just a cup of cold coffee
Gotta get up in the morning and go

Everybody's prayin' and drinkin' that wine
I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines
Come to daddy on the inside straight,
Well I got no chance of losin' this time

Last fair deal in the country,
Last fair deal in the town
Put your gold money where your love is baby,
Before you let my deal go down

Everybody's prayin' and drinkin' that wine
I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines
Come to daddy on the inside straight,
Well I got no chance of losin' this time.

thanksgiving is so very close!!!

well my family is on the way
and i have been cleaning all morning..... now it's time to start cooking...
i am in charge of the sweet potatoes....

i have been muling over several different ways but i think
i am going to stick to an old fashioned yummy recipe...

a casserole with marshmallow and bourbon... y.u.m.

Ingredients:

  • 6 large sweet potatoes, baked, peeled, and mashed
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup good bourbon
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • mini-marshmallows

Preparation:

Mix all ingredients well; beat well, until light and fluffy. If needed add a little more milk. Spoon sweet potato mixture into a buttered casserole dish; bake at 350° until set, about 20 to 30 minutes. Garnish with marshmallows and bake until marshmallows melt and just begin to brown. If desired garnish with finely grated orange zest instead of marshmallows, and skip the final baking time.
Serves 8.

this is going to be my base, of course i will probably
uses more bourbon, remember my whole family is on their way here,
and i like the idea of large marshmallows....
i am also toying with the idea of doing a layer of spiced pecans...

gosh i am getting hungry... time to cook!

don't leave me.....

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight
and who will be her lover?

All your life you've never seen
a woman taken by the wind.
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

She is like a cat in the dark,
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless

All your life you've never seen
a woman taken by the wind.
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

Will you ever win?

She rules her life like a bird in flight
and who will be her lover?

All your life you've never seen

Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

Will you ever win?

faux fur..........

Th
finally with the cold weather approaching us.....
i am hooked on fur...
ugh, years of not agreeing with fur and here i am dying
for some major FAUX fur!!!

chanel

the fall 2010 runways had fur trends everywhere and along with
serpent jewelry i think fur is sexy, chic, and i want some...
here are some of my favorites from the runway:

fendi

gucci

j. mendel

altuzarra

derek lam

faux fur captures that glamorous look,
 the gypsy style i love,
the look of the seventies
kind of a "heroin chic".

"Fall runway shows wrapped up without a single documented PETA-sponsored prank. Ironic, considering how many pelts decorated the catwalks. They came patchworked at Fendi and Acne, positively ferocious at Lanvin, and in the form of an ultra-plush peacoat at Burberry Prorsum. But leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to have the last laugh. At Chanel, everything from the house's classic tweeds and quilted, chain-strap bags to yeti boots was trimmed in fur—faux fur that is"
